Jenny Halpern

Jenny Halpern is an artist and educator based in Chicago, working primarily in painting, drawing, and assemblage with materials such as paint, bedding, old clothes, wax, and resin. A major focus of her practice explores language, time, and identity through abstraction and materials that carry emotional histories. Born in Indiana, she earned her MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, a BA in Visual and Communication Design from Purdue University, and an Associate’s degree in Fashion Studies from Parsons School of Design. Her work has been exhibited at Rushwoman, Yes Project Space at Zhou B Art Center, the Art Institute of Chicago, JULIUS CAESAR, Color Club, Hyde Park Art Center, Woman Made Gallery, CNL Projects, Latin School Gallery, NEIU Gallery, Parlour & Ramp, and Ivory Gate Gallery. Ms. Jenny has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in both the Adult Continuing Studies and Undergraduate Painting and Drawing departments and currently teaches Intro to Visual Communications Design at ChiArts in the Visual Arts Conservatory. When she is not teaching or in the studio, she enjoys exploring Chicago with her daughter and experimenting with new crafts with her.
